Blepharoplasty or Eyelid Lift

Eyelid Lift

An Eyelid Lift, also known as Blepharoplasty, has been become increasingly popular and is definitely one of the most popular procedures in the U.S.  This procedure repairs droopy eyelids and may involve removing excess skin, muscle and fat.

As you age, your eyelids stretch and the muscles supporting them weaken. This can result in droopy upper lids and bags under your eyes. An eyelid lift often results in a more youthful, rested, alert appearance. Removing excess skin from your upper lids may also improve vision.

Here are a few things you may want to know about this type of procedure:

Upper Eyelid Surgery – This type of surgery helps improve vision loss and the appearance of the eyes due to aging or genetics. As the name implies, the procedure is focused on the upper eyelid with a goal of restoring function and providing a more rounded open appearance to the eyes

Lower Eyelid Surgery – This procedure centers on the lower lid and eyes. The goal is to remove wrinkles in the skin, to correct baggy eyes and improve appearance.

Double Eyelid Surgery – As one my guess by the name, this procedure addresses bot the upper and lower eyelids.  In this procedure, a crease is made in the upper eyelid, which results in wider, larger-looking eyes.

Eyelid surgery may be an option for you if you have:

  • Baggy or droopy upper eyelids
  • Excess skin on the upper eyelids that interferes with your peripheral vision
  • Excess skin on the lower eyelids
  • Bags under the eyes

Insurance sometimes will cover the cost of the procedure if it addresses a condition that improves vision.  However, if you have the surgery only to improve appearance, the cost is seldom covered by insurance.
